Studying Italian in Emilia-Romagna

This is the most spread-out region in the north: nine schools in six cities, from Bologna to Ravenna, from Modena to Rimini. And it has the smallest average class size of all, ten students: at the same price you speak more.

Bologna is the natural centre, with the oldest university in the western world and nine hundred years of habit with foreigners. The other cities are smaller and less touristy: in Modena, Reggio Emilia or Ravenna you are almost certain to sit in class with few compatriots.

The Emilian accent has wide vowels and a voiced s, but the Italian spoken here is clear. Costs are average, below Milan and Florence. The best period is spring and autumn: summer on the Po plain is humid and heavy, winter foggy.
