Studying Italian in Friuli-Venezia Giulia

This is the most multilingual region in Italy. Besides Italian people speak Friulian, a Romance language recognised by law, Slovene along the border and German in some valleys. In Trieste the traces of the Austrian empire are still there, in the words and in the cafés.

The schools are in Trieste, a border city that was the port of Vienna, and you can hear it: the Italian here has a cadence that sounds almost foreign to other Italians, and the vocabulary of the bar is unlike anywhere else in the country.

For a learner that is an unexpected advantage: in a city used to three languages nobody expects you to have them all, and people speak slowly. Costs are average. The good season runs from April to October; winter brings the bora wind.
