A one-hour first lesson to get to know each other, free and with no obligation. After that €80 an hour on site and €45 online: what sets the rate.

From the station to the Science Park

I live in Ede, half an hour from Utrecht by train, so the lesson can simply happen at your office: a meeting room and a fixed time each week. Around Utrecht Centraal and the Jaarbeurs, in Papendorp or Rijnsweerd, at Utrecht Science Park, on Lage Weide or in Leidsche Rijn: the place doesn't matter much, the fixed hour does.

If you work from home part of the week, we do those lessons online. Same hour, same teacher, and the rhythm doesn't break.

What we work on

Whatever is on your desk, not a textbook chapter. An email to an Italian supplier that is polite without being stiff. A call with someone who talks fast and doesn't wait for you. A quote, a delivery date that keeps slipping, a complaint you want to make firmly but nicely. And the codes around it, which are the hardest part for people used to Dutch directness: how long the warm-up before business should last, how to say no in Italy, and when ci sentiamo is an appointment and when it's just a polite goodbye.

If you start from zero, we build the basics and your professional vocabulary side by side. If you're further along, we work with your own material: real emails, real quotes, a conversation that went wrong. More on the content: business Italian.

A big trading partner, and fewer places to learn

According to Statistics Netherlands (CBS), the Netherlands imported €11.9 billion worth of goods from Italy in 2019 and exported €20.5 billion worth of goods to it; that year Italy was one of the ten countries the Netherlands bought the most goods from. Purchasing usually happens in English. But when a delivery goes wrong, my students keep seeing the same thing: the other side switches back to Italian.

In Utrecht itself there is less choice than there was. Since 1 May 2025 Utrecht University no longer accepts applications for its bachelor's in Italian language and culture. For someone with a job, a three-year degree was never the route anyway. A fixed hour a week at the office is.
