Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 July 2026.
This policy describes what data the ti app ("the App") processes and how. Data controller: Thuis Italiaans, reachable at thuisitaliaans@gmail.com.
The principle: your data stays on your device
The App is designed to work locally. Study progress, learned words, statistics, settings and preferences are stored exclusively on your device and are not sent to our servers (we have none). We use no third-party analytics, show no ads, and do not track your activity.
Data processed with Sign in with Apple
If you choose "Sign in with Apple", we receive an anonymous identifier from Apple and, on first sign-in only and if you choose to share them, your name and possibly your email address (including Apple's private relay form). These are stored only on your device and are used solely to display your name in the App. We never transmit or sell them. Alternatively, you can create a local profile with a simple username or use the App as a guest: no password is ever requested or stored.
Purchases
Purchases (subscriptions, lifetime purchase, individual paths and novels) are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store payment data. Via StoreKit we only verify which products are active on your Apple account, in order to unlock the corresponding content.
The Classe feature
The Classe feature lets a teacher follow the progress of their students who join the class. When a student joins, the iCloud public CloudKit database stores their username, the Italian level they have reached, the number of exercises completed, the streak, the current stage of the path and up to five words they are struggling with. This data is visible to the teacher who manages the class and to other students in the same class (only the exercise leaderboard, and only if the teacher has enabled it). It is not used for advertising, not shared with third parties, not used to train AI models. In the Classe feature, the teacher is the data controller under Art. 4(7) GDPR; Thuis Italiaans is the data processor under Art. 28 GDPR (we provide the technical service and do not use the data for our own purposes). Students and teachers can leave a class at any time from the class card itself; residual data is wiped within 30 days. For early deletion of specific data, write to thuisitaliaans@gmail.com with the class code and username: we reply within 30 days.
Data we do not collect
We do not collect location, contacts, photos, microphone, health or browsing data. We do not build user profiles and do not share data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Retention and deletion
Because data lives on your device, you are in full control: from the "Account and privacy" screen you can use "Delete my data" to permanently remove profile, progress, words and statistics. Uninstalling the App also deletes all local data. Purchases remain tied to your Apple account and can be restored after reinstalling.
Your rights (GDPR)
As an EU resident you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Since personal data resides on your device, most of these rights are exercised directly in the App; for any request, write to thuisitaliaans@gmail.com.
Children
The App does not require personal data to be used and is suitable also for younger students. If a parent believes a minor has shared data via Sign in with Apple without consent, contact us for help with removal (also possible directly from the App). In the Classe feature, on first entry the student declares they are at least 16 years old: below that threshold the feature does not activate until the teacher has obtained a parent's written consent, as required by Art. 8 GDPR. The teacher, when first creating a class, declares that they have informed parents and students and that they retain the consents received.
Changes to this policy
If the App introduces features involving new processing in the future (for example cloud sync), we will update this policy and ask for your consent before enabling them. The current version is always published on this page.
