The rule: the present conditional

The conditional is politeness turned into grammar: vorrei un appuntamento sounds soft where voglio sounds blunt. It is used to ask, advise, wish and hypothesise, and its stems are the same as the future’s.

The forms

parl-AREprend-EREdorm-IRE
ioparlereiprendereidormirei
tuparlerestiprenderestidormiresti
lui / leiparlerebbeprenderebbedormirebbe
noiparleremmoprenderemmodormiremmo
voiparleresteprenderestedormireste
loroparlerebberoprenderebberodormirebbero
Same irregular stems as the future: vorrei, potrei, dovrei, sarei, avrei, andrei, farei. And mind the double m: noi parleremmo is conditional, parleremo is future.
