At the café (bar)
In Italy, "bar" means "café". You often pay first at the cassa, take the receipt (scontrino), then order at the counter.
- Un caffè, per favore.: An espresso, please.
- Un cappuccino e un cornetto.: A cappuccino and a croissant.
- Da bere?: To drink? (they'll ask this)
- Da portare via.: To take away.
At the restaurant
- Un tavolo per due, per favore.: A table for two, please.
- Il menu, per favore.: The menu, please.
- Cosa consiglia?: What do you recommend?
- Prendo la carbonara.: I'll have the carbonara.
- Per me un secondo, senza contorno.: For me a main course, no side.
- Ancora del pane, per favore.: More bread, please.
- Il conto, per favore.: The bill, please.
Ordering pizza (takeaway or delivery)
- Vorrei una margherita e una diavola.: I'd like a margherita and a spicy salami.
- Con o senza pomodoro?: With or without tomato? (they may ask)
- Consegna a domicilio?: Home delivery?
- Tra quanto tempo è pronto?: How long until it's ready?
