Literature from day one, without drowning.

Not simplified to the bone: rewritten, level by level.

Behind amo Italian there is a real teacher: Alessio, teaching Italian since 2018. And one honest rule: the app gives you the daily practice, but you learn to speak with a person. Use it on its own, or alongside lessons: with Alessio or with your own teacher.

Questions about reading the classics

Which novels are included?

The big names of Italian literature: Manzoni, Verga, Capuana, Pirandello, De Amicis, Serao, Collodi, Vamba and others. More than 25 titles, each in a version made for the level, plus themed booklets about Italy today. The catalogue keeps growing.

What does "rewritten for the level" mean?

The text is not cut and not turned into a summary: syntax, tenses and vocabulary are matched to the level, and the story stays whole. Start at A1 and you read the same story you will meet again at B2, in the Italian you can follow right now.

Do I need a subscription to read?

The subscription opens the full A1 to C2 path, the dictionary and the exercises, plus three titles of your choice; Lifetime gives six. Other titles are bought one by one. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.

How much does the amo Italian app cost?

The download is free. With a subscription (monthly or yearly) or with the Lifetime purchase you unlock the complete A1–C2 path, the dictionary and the exercises without limits; on top of that you choose 3 titles with the subscription and 6 with Lifetime, freely from the newsstand courses and the graded novels. The other titles are bought individually. Prices are shown in the app before any purchase.

Does it work without a connection?

Yes. Once you have downloaded a book or a level, the exercises, the readings and the dictionary work offline. You only need the network for purchases and to sync your progress.

Which languages is it available in?

Grammar, translations and dictionary come in 17 languages: Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Korean, French, Japanese, English, Dutch, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Tagalog, German, Tigrinya, Turkish and Ukrainian.

Is it good for preparing for CILS, CELI or PLIDA?

Yes. The path follows the CEFR levels from A1 to C2 with checkpoints and level exams, so it covers the skills those certifications require. It is not, however, an official exam simulator.

Is it available for Android?

For now amo Italian is an app for iPhone and iPad. On Android you can use the 700+ free exercises on this site, which work from any browser.

What is the difference between the app and private lessons?

The app gives you structure, repetition and vocabulary, and it works whenever you want. Lessons are for speaking, being corrected and getting unstuck. Many students use the app between one lesson and the next.
